artist bill kleinedler shows at printworks
artist bill kleinedler
The staff of Printworks was privileged to not only meet renowned artist U.S. Staff Sgt. William (Bill) Kleinedler (Ret.) at our office recently, but to also view one of his prized pieces. Bill Kleinedler has shown his work from coast to coast, initially while in the military, and more recently as a civilian.
In his last tour of Iraq he was severely injured by an IED (improvised explosive device) and underwent multiple surgeries and years of rehabilitation. Kleinedler’s bastion has been his wife, Jenny, and his art. Bill had been commissioned to produce artwork for The Warrior & Family Support Center, The United Way, the USAA, and more recently, Fisher House Foundation in Boston. His sculpture “Integro” now resides at the Fisher House Boston in their outdoor healing garden. In an article for Wicked Local, Kleinedler spoke about “Integro”, Latin for “to begin anew” and how he equated the sculpture to the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. “Butterflies represent hope and beauty of change,” he said.
He has also been named the recipient of the 2013 Lantern Award given by the Knights of Columbus.
We are proud that Printworks has been chosen to be the official printer and distributor of his greeting card collection depicting his inspirational art. To learn more about Bill Kleinedler and to view some of his artwork, visit his website.
Memorial Day 2013 Events
memorial day 2013 – events in the walpole / boston area
Memorial Day, a United States federal holiday, is a day to remember and honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War, and was originally known as Decoration Day. By the 20th century it was extended to honor all Americans who have died while in military service. Memorial Day also typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, which we have all been looking forward to. This weekend is a great time to cherish the people in our lives and spend time with family and friends. We’ve put together a list of events for the long weekend – including our annual Memorial Day Observance in Walpole on Monday, May 27, but as we spend time with our families, let’s take a moment to remember those who gave their lives for their country.

the one fund
the one fund
It seemed so trivial getting back to the office and trying to get business done when our world has been turned upside down by sinister forces. If you’re feeling the same, but trying to get back to “normal”, a positive frame of mind, and move forward, we’d like to point you in a direction. Mayor Menino and Governor Patrick, in good wisdom, have set up a fund for those most affected by the Marathon bombings: theonefundboston.org
While it won’t bring back lives and remove the pain of those affected by last week’s violence, it will help heal, literally and figuratively, the wounds of those injured and their families.
The staff at Printworks urge you to support this effort and will support it ourselves by giving a percentage of our sales for the next month. A percentage of our sales will be donated to The One Fund through May 23rd. Every time you use our services through May 23rd, know that a portion of our total sales will be donated to that fund.
Stay Boston Strong!
branding – does everybody know your name
branding is the key to name recognition and recall
Are you getting your name out? Name recognition, or branding, has taken on a whole new set of issues with the onslaught of electronic and social media. While these communications are critical to talking to your customers, they don’t always give them a “lasting impression”. Of course, your content has something to do with that, but reinforcing who you are often has more staying power with graphic images. And the strongest and longest impression is the printed one. Even in the electronic age, you send out checks—do they have your logo on them? The envelope you send them in—does it have your company ID on it? The stand-by business card, still the best marketing tool most businesses have—are you using them? Do they convey the image of who you are?
If the answer to any of these questions is no, perhaps you should be thinking of reinforcing that image. Printworks is happy to consult with you on the direction, design and implementation of your company image. We can create a strong brand or merely reinforce what you’ve already done. Does everybody know your name? If they’re like me, they tend to forget names quickly. You need to have a presence on every piece you send out.
Call or email us any time for input, design or quotes.
the right price
the right price
At Printworks we take pride in offering the right price for your print projects. We just completed a price survey of our competitors in the region for color digital printing. What we found out was very reassuring: Printworks was already the lowest in most quantities and choices. But that’s not good enough! So, we lowered prices in the few areas where we didn’t beat the competition, and we now have bragging rights. Shop anyone in the area, even the big guys, and you’ll find our prices are lower.
Low prices are not the only point to consider when comparing print jobs, however. We’re happy to say that our prices have not affected our quality of customer service one bit. In an age when everything seems to go up, isn’t it nice to see good value get even better?! Printworks: the right price, the right staff, the right products and services, the right equipment!
Call or email for a quick quote. We’re ready for your next project!
new two color press
Our new two color press
A new year, a new website, and now a new two color press, the Heidelberg Printmaster. We call her Heidi. Our new baby arrived on January 22, all two thousand pounds of her. Our new two color press is adding a new standard to our offset printing: truer color, better registration, and quicker turnaround time.
When you’re ready to go to press, contact Printworks for a new level of quality! We have the right equipment for the job, at the right price!
happy 2013
The staff at Printworks wishes you the happiest of holidays and a Happy New Year. We look forward to serving you in the coming year!
environmentally friendly printing
A word about environmentally friendly printing…
“Printing kills trees.” “Electronic communications are environmentally beneficial.” There are many misconceptions about the use of paper and its impact on the environment. Don’t sell paper short—it’s a renewable resource; and here at Printworks, we use environmentally friendly printing.
Have you noticed that just about every bill you receive in the mail extolls the virtues of paying that bill electronically? We’ll overlook that the “PayitGreen” program is in part underwritten by NACHA (The Electronic Payments Association) and try to get to the quick of the message.
Paper: a sustainable resource
The printing industry uses a sustainable, renewable resource that is vital to our economy – paper — which comes from trees. Did you know that American forests have grown by 49% from 1953 to 2006 (The Society for American Forests)? Also, paper used by U.S. printers is made with 60% renewable energy…and over 63% of that print material is recovered by recycling. Now, compare that to the electronic media where “conflict metals” are used in production.
Electronics and “dirty” fuels
The electricity used by computers and other electronics in this country comes largely from non-sustainable fossil fuels including “dirty” coal. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration as much as 89% of electricity comes from fossil fuels. If that isn’t environmentally jarring enough, consider that only 13% percent of the hardware, like the computer you’re using right now, is recycled (EPA stats). The vast majority of the rest is shipped overseas, dismantled and usually burned to recover some metals.
Environmentally friendly printing
Now, we’re not contending that electronic communications are the villains here (or I wouldn’t be using it right now), and that paper is the answer to keep our planet green. But we are trying to clear up some myths. Paper can be great for our planet as well as great for your communication mix. Created and used properly, it answers the call of both being an effective form of communication as well as a responsible environmental tool.
Printworks practices environmentally friendly printing, using highly recycled paper products from sustainable forests and recycling 100% of our paper wastes.

born in the usa
Our paper products are born in the USA. While the election campaigns are highlighting the country’s dependency on foreign resources, the printing industry, including Printworks, has been buying American for decades. We’re proud to say that over 80% of our product lines are grown and milled right here in the U.S. – born in the USA!
The American forest industry is more healthy and vibrant than ever. And, by buying domestic lines, we’re able to order them on short notice to react quickly to customer needs. So while we don’t necessarily put a “Made in USA” tag on our goods, be assured that when you buy printing from Printworks, you’re not only supporting a local business, but also a national sustainable resource.
Let’s keep it here. Let’s keep it local!
